LAME CARVE!!!!!

FINALLY, my issue of LAME CARVE 1.1 came in the post. With a sweet stamp, Van Gogh lookin' like he bout to chop that ear off. shhhhhhit.  Solid skate nerd zine from my good friend Ron Ron (Mr. CotĂȘ) with a couple of old ads and skate photos that really brought me back. Remember that time Tom Penny (pretty much) made a comeback in the mid 2000's? Well its in there. Heath Kirchart kf bs lipping rails really really well before anyone else? Thats in there too. AVE, Kalis and a surprise appearance from Karl Watson(psyched) all grace the pages of 1.1. If you ever wanna talk to anyone about obscure skate magazine ads or old (or new for that matter) skate parts, contact the maker of this zine.
Pages 14+15 labelled "confusing art"can go any way you like. I see a Batman mask in a landfill. What do you figure? Maybe a huge tidal wave due to climate change ripping through a coastal town? Maybe?
Psyched on the first issue and I'm told by Ron (ref: white belly shaking video) that issue 2 is in the works and I can't wait to get that in the mail too. Also, beside myself with excitement to skateboard with Mr CotĂȘ net weekend. Soul Carve. Lame Carve.
PS watch the video of Ron with the volume turned up, its a lot more satisfying.

This is what my phone looked like when I turned it on today. haha.

Translated, I'm told it means "Good". I would agree.

I got this YO SICK package in the mail today from BMX aficionado, zine master extraordinaire and fine bearded gentleman Prashant Gopal. The package chronicles the trip that him and his buddies took to Barcelona to ride BMX bikes and, from what I can deduce from the state of youth culture these days, drink a whole bunch of exotic Spanish beers and puke all over a whole new continent. At 32 pages, the 12th issue of YO SICK is an accomplishment. Inside you will find original drawings, bro-cam shots, an awesome layout and computer scans that accompany the general good vibes of the issue. And the DVD is chalk full of riders chipping awesome skate ledges with their pegged bicycles. hahaha just kidding. the riding is top notch and the soundtrack includes the Marvin Gaye track, "Ain't Nothin Like the Real Thing". So its settled then, no matter if you ride a BMX bike or a skateboard, Motown will go really really well with your video part.
Psyched on the package buddy! Great to see yet another solid issue of YO SICK.

One for the Wall

Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I'm really into Michael Jackson. Off The Wall, with the immediate exception of "She's Out of My Life",  is probably the best thing to come out of the Disco genre (if not the only thing). I still don't think Mike touched all them little boys, and I don't care what anyone says haha. Saw this board though and had to have it. Throwing it up on the wall beside the holiest of holy: a J. Lee signed Stereo board.

It all happened on Shaw Creek Rd.

I know that no one wants to see winter photos when its +26 outside, but I just got this roll of black and whites with some old ones from January.
In the first, Bobby is perched on Jon Boy's sled while we were trying to get it unstuck from a pond.
And in the last my brother and his best bud do snowmobile tricks. Good times.

Self Portrait

If you hung out with me this winter in Timmins, this was pretty much the scene. Sometimes with more beer, sometimes with more buddies. It was a nonstop white knuckle thrill ride all winter long.

Morrisey Ripper

Why do I like Morrisey so much? I'm not sure. But I often find myself singing very loudly to the song posted above when driving home at night from my brother's house. Maybe it's his flamboyant hand gestures, or the bouquet of flowers sticking out of his back pocket. Who knows.
Anyway, I try not to reblog too much of the content in these pages, but this adaptation of Powell's Ripper graphic with Morrisey's melodramatic stare and fog horn leg horn like quaff were just too good to pass up.
I think Gareth Stehr drew it when he took a break from being the greeeeziest dude on a skateboard and motorcycle. Quite an achievement really. Check his blog HERE. Its full of all sorts of weird Satan lovin' stuff and some genuienly good graphics and artwork.

Progress on the ol' weekend project.

So the bank to ledge is almost done. Looks so very inviting. 5-OH to bank? OOOH ya! Just need to go get angle iron to throw on the ledge and you'll be able to hit it from both sides. The Tan Man came over to help me out with the angles. Banged this thing out in a sunny afternoon on the back deck avec beers and sagarettes. Now all we need is for the snow to melt.

Lee Tiff: Rip n Rage n Paint

This is my buddy and Timmins brethren Lee Tiff and what he does. Tiff is a painter, skateboarder, collector of nostalgia, heavy slang user and a young man that can throw a baseball. The next issue of Dick Jokes zine will profile Tiff's work and talk a little about his thought shapes. His work is very intricate and these pictures don't do them justice. Check out leetiffany.tumblr.com

Classic Canadian content

Canadian skateboarding. Yes. When I see this video I think of high school and the hours I spent watching this video. First time I ever saw Ted De Gros' super tech super laid back style: ref. (3:02 shiiiit). Big spin front nose, full cab heel flips in 2002 and the first drum track that is actually tolerable, if not fitting for a skate part. Keegan Sauder's intro is probably the reason why I spent all my money on a motorbike and his proficiency skating Hastings is why I wish I could skate bowls now. Always liked the nollie at 1:31 and any part with a Rick McCrank cameo is worth a watch. And lets not forget about the Beaver. What's more Canadian then a giant beaver buying a skateboard with a bag full of loonies and toonies?  Not a whole hell of a lot.
Also, classic parts from Russ Milligan, Mike McDermott and Wade Fyfe before the accident.
